Boundary Bay Brewery in Bellingham, WA asked us to conceptualize a new can design for their Cedar Dust IPA. They intended on selling both on the west coast of the state where the name “Cedar Dust” relates to a popular trail on the world famous Galbraith Mountain Bike trail system, as well as on the east coast of the state where cedar tree harvesting was a more likely “Cedar Dust” reference. We had to come up with graphics for the can that would work in both environments and this final can design really nailed it.
The mountain scene represents both audiences well.
The vertical separations were meant to represent a trail system.
The woodgrain texture helps connect to the logging industry.
The color palette is far different from traditional cans and was designed to be less aggressive than the biking/logging visual elements. Helps balance the response to the artwork.
